KOLKATA: Labour minister Purnendu Basu on Friday set up grievance cells for workers at Writers' Buildings and the New Secretariat building. The inquiry and grievance cells will address the grievances within seven days of filing the complaint, the minister said during the opening ceremony of the cells at Writers' Buildings on Friday.
Similar cells will be opened soon at eight state directorates and the administrative offices in each of the districts.

"We want to have direct contact with the workers so that they can tell us about their problems are. The labour directorate keeps receiving a large number of petitions and grievances from workers of various organizations from across the state. They range from a variety of issues like service, employment, union problems and grievances against management. We want to know the issues directly so that problems big and small can be nipped in the bud," the minister said.
The cells will be headed by the deputy secretary of the labour department, Baidyanath Chakraborty.
